Artist Statement
Art, in its myriad forms, is always a form of self-expression, a means to communicate an idea/emotion/philosophy to its observers. With regards to my own work, it focuses on social commentary rooted in the prevalent issues affecting modern day life.
At this stage, my works essentially centre around two broad themes:
1- The ubiquity of consumption culture and its sweeping impact on people. Using this as a foundational idea, I delve into the love/hate relationship many people feel towards consumption by offering portrayals of the excesses, contradictions and transgressions it creates.. my intent is simple-to provoke viewers into a moment of reflection.
2- The life of women as imagined & understood from the perspective of a man, father, son, marketer and artist. Within this construct, my work seeks to mirror the desires, ambitions, ambiguities, aspirations, biases & stereotypes dictating the lives of women in today’s Western societies.
