Selfless Selfies

The expression "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." was coined by Andy Warhol in 1968. Twas prescient to say the least. Clearly his insight foreshadowed a pop culture obsessed society, where fame and notoriety would become highly prized social currency.

Fast forward to 2025. While fame remains coveted by many, its shine is fading. The ubiquity of social media, rise of cancel culture and rabid/hate fuelled keyboard warriors are all byproducts of our hyper-connected, "always on" lifestyles.

As a direct consequence, many now seek their “15 minutes of Anonymity.” Their mental health demands it. As does the very human desire to reconnect with one’s authentic self.

In my photo series entitled "Selfless Selfies”, I consciously chose to forego the overt forms of self aggrandizing promotion inherent in today's culture (duck faces and curated lifestyle chic) in favor of simply casting myself as an accessory to the travels, art journeys and cultural experiences that more accurately define me and my inspirations.
